Palestine Lodge#189 AF&AM - Catonsville, MD

It is never too early to start planning for New Years Eve. Each year the Grand Lodge throws a New Years party at the Grand Lodge. This year's party will be 12-31-10 from 7:30pm to 12:30pm. Dancing and food aplenty. Tickets will run $175 per couple with sales starting 10-1-10. Look for additional information as the we start lodge back up again in the Fall.

This year we again had a family picnic in the Patapsco State Park. The number of families and guests increased over the attendance last year with fun and fellowship abounding. By my rough count we had 56 in attendance. With non of the brethren brave enough to get in the moon-bounce this year the children were able to enjoy the moon bounce for hours.

Brother Uebersax took a bevy of pictures that we hope to post in short order, we hope to see you next year!

We had a great Masonic Study Group meeting, talking a bit on the Holy Saints John, the Hospitallers, as well as well as other Masonic topics. Bros. Guercio, Poteet, Ubersax, and Matulewicz had great fellowship and conversation. If you would like to attend, or would like to talk about a topic don't hesitate to reach out, we hope to see you there.

If you didn't remember to RSVP don't sweat it, we will have plenty of food, but please should you decide to come (and not have RSVP'd) out you will be responsible for the $2 per person park access fee.

Not only did our brothers at Millington put on a great 1st degree at the summer school of instruction our own Bros. Guercio and Bombino went through the catechism examination for the first degree. If you are interested in seeing the 2nd degree work join us next week at the Grand Lodge.

We are having our next Masonic Study Group on the 14th of July at the lodge, the topic is the consideration of the first degree up to the preparation room door.

With Palestine's Masonic Research Group growing more interesting it also became time to restart an old tradition anew with a Gazette of Masonic and Maryland interest stories. If you would be interested in contributing please reach out.

Charles Wilson Peale Maryland Mason and Revolutionary Patriot

"Born in 1741 in Chestertown, Maryland, studied under the famous artist Benjamin West in England, perhaps becoming exposed there to other Masons who were forming opposition to their colonial status. Returning to Annapolis in 1774, he began his career as a portrait painter but then volunteered for service in the Revolutionary War, serving as a Captain in the Battle of Trenton and Germantown before being elected to the Maryland State Legislature. As America's most accomplished formal portraitist, he was much in demand by the celebrities of that period and managed 14 sittings with George Washington, who was well known for limiting such imposition on his time. He painted many other famous Freemasons, including Hancock, Von Steuben, Franklin, Randolph, Jackson, and Clay." (Harrington, George F.).

Remember that the lodge is sponsoring Sunday services tomorrow at 3pm at the Maryland Masonic Homes. If you are available consider it a trip well worth making.

Due to impending inclement weather and scheduling conflicts we are postponing our next charcoal night until next friday, the second of July.

As always bring some meats to grill, maybe a side, and maybe some adult or family beverages as you prefer.
